LIFE IS A GIFT!
Life is a gift that has been given to you – do not take this gift for granted – or put it on a shelf somewhere. Use this gift by living your life fully. Living your life from your greatness. You are here to soar. You are here to make a difference by sharing your unique gifts with the world. You are amazing!
Ask yourself, “Am I living my life fully? If the answer is no, ask yourself, “why not?” You are not here to play small!
The religions of the world offer a cornucopia of practices aimed at self-examination and spiritual stocktaking. They offer us tools aimed at opening our eyes to the ever-present reality of the sacred within. There is one practice found in every religion that may be called the Royal Road to wisdom. For example, Yom Kippur is a Royal Road to Wisdom in the Jewish religion. The Buddhists have Mindfulness Training. These disciplines go straight to the core of inner work, teaching us to relish life in every second. Find your Royal Road to wisdom.
There is a plethora of self-help books, audio programs, seminars and talks aimed at self-examination. They also offer us tools how to get to our genius.
As you use some of these tools and get more in touch with your voice, with your creativity, with your gifts, with your purpose, you will find that old grudges and preoccupations melt away, replaced by a surge of compassion for all transient beings. You will start realizing that it really does not matter whether you are right or wrong – and will look at your petty differences as foolish.
Start using this gift of Life by celebrating it, living it to it’s fullest, expressing your voice and your talents. Live it with passion and inspire and empower others to do the same. Start out each day with a reminder that you are here to make a difference…to Soar.
Traditionally, Oglala Sioux greeted the new day by going outside to offer a prayer to the morning or daybreak star. During a 1931 interview with Black Elk he described his practice: “I usually get up about the time the morning star rises and my people were to have knowledge from this star and people seemed all to know this. They were eager to see it come out and by the time the daybreak star came out the people would be saying, “Behold the star of wisdom.” In this activity, we see the marriage of ritual and symbol that so often underlies the traditional approach to “waking up”. The morning star signified, according to Black Elk,”the desire for and the certainty of more light to those who desire.” By sighting the “star of wisdom” each morning, the Sioux asked the powers that govern the universe to help them in their quest for a more sacred way of life. To help them live their life more fully – and to celebrate their life. Wake up and find your “Star of Wisdom.”
Self-examination and Spiritual Stocktaking is no easy task. For it requires us, once we have opened our spiritual eyes, to keep them open. No matter what! Waking up, alone, is no easy task – but to stay awake, sometimes feels impossible. All of us have experienced what we might have described as ending – a car accident, a relationship failing, divorce, getting fired from a job – and yet we all have discovered that these endings led to new beginnings.
Sometimes during these very difficult times, we give our power away. We play small…we don’t speak up for ourselves. During these difficult times it is imperative, in my opinion, to keep our power and to speak from that power. Taking good self-examination may include looking into our hearts – at the feelings we hold toward ourselves, toward others, toward the person who fired us from that job, or towards the person who ended our relationship or caused the divorce. Feelings of hatred, envy, anger, fear, revenge, self-pity, lack, etc., keep us sleeping and playing small in our lives.
You can wake up right now by letting go of the negative feelings from your heart and start seeing everyone as precious, including yourself. You can start living your life fully – and start celebrating your gift of Life….by sharing your gifts.
There are so many stories of people looking back on their lives and are overwhelmed by a sense of failure. They have a closet full of regrets. They become disheartened when they reflect on how they have overlooked the preciousness of their relationships, forgotten the importance of finding their true work and delayed what some call “living my own life” because they had left so many parts of their life for later. But later came much sooner than they expected and they found themselves burdened by unfulfilled dreams and a sense of incompleteness. Many people experience a certain remorse about having neglected spiritual growth, others express dismay that there has been so little authentic joy in their lives. All but those who have fully opened to life say they that they would live differently if they had just one more year to live. If they had that one year, they would change their work situation, be more grateful for their families and start some spiritual practice to become more open-hearted. They would find their voice and speak up for themselves. The would get in touch with their greatness and live from that place. They would find their creativity and share it with others.
So to sum it all up – Life is a gift. You are a gift to others. You are not here to play small…you are here to soar. You are here to walk with the bold and the brilliant. You are here to move beside the doers and the dreamers. You are not here to hide your gifts. You are here to share them with the world. You are amazing and you are here to make a difference in the world.
