LEAVE YOUR LIGHT ON
LEAVE YOUR LIGHT ON
I haven’t blogged for quite a while since I have been working on my book. However, Rev. Eric Overholtzer inspired me last week by a talk that he gave at the Global Truth Center. He talked about being a “beacon of light.” He shared his light shines bright at times, and other times his light is dim, depending on how he is thinking and feeling. I think we all can relate to that.
When Rev. Eric first mentioned the words “beacon of light”, I thought of an old commercial for a motel chain that ended their advertisement with “We’ll leave the light on.”
That got me really thinking about what Rev. Eric Overholtzer said.
When we talk about or use the word God – we sometimes say, God is Love or God is Power or God is Light, well, I believe that God is all these things. We are made in the image of God – not our physical bodies, but our soul. Our souls are love, are powerful and are light. That’s the Truth of who and what we are. Our Universe is a system of Light….and therefore, so are WE.
According to Gary Zukav, author of the Dancing Wu Li Masters, an overview of New Physics, we are a system of Light. The frequency of our Light depends upon our consciousness. When we shift the level of our consciousness, we shift the level of our Light. If we choose to forgive someone who has wronged us, for example, rather than to hold a grudge, or hate for the person, we shift the frequency of our Light. If we choose to feel affection, or kinship, with a person rather than distance or coldness, we shift the frequency of our Light.
Our emotions are currents of energy with different frequencies. Emotions that we think of as negative, such as hatred, envy, fear, worry, are lower frequency and less energy, than emotions that we think of as positive, such as joy, love, and compassion. According to Gary Zukav, when we choose to replace a lower-frequency current, such as anger, with a higher frequency current, such as forgiveness, we raise the frequency of our Light. When we choose to allow higher frequency currents of energy to run through our system, we experience more energy. When we are anxious or sad, for example, we usually feel physically depleted because we have merged with an energy current of low frequency.
We could say that “Light” is consciousness. When we do not understand something, we say that we must “bring it to light.” If we are confused, we say that our process “needs more light”. When a sudden idea occurs to us, we say that the “light came on”, and when a person is fully conscious, we say that he or she is “enlightened”. We could also say, then, Light means understanding. The Enlightened “understand”.
Enlightened people don’t have anything we don’t have. They have perfect love inside and so do we. The difference is that they don’t have anything else. Jesus, Buddha, and other great Spiritual Masters, exist in a state that is potential in the rest of us. They were geniuses in the way they used their minds and hearts, just as Beethoven was a genius with music and Shakespeare a genius with word. We can learn from them, follow their lead, study what they were doing right. They “Kept their Light on”.
When someone told us we were not smart enough or good enough –or a burden or whatever was said that caused us not to trust in ourselves – not to trust in the God within us, who we truly are, and started living from a place of “less than” or “better than”, our Light began to dim and flicker. We started to have standards and ideals imposed on us.
Just imagine, the children that were born and raised by people who hated and feared the Native American Indians during the time that our Native people were free. These children had that hatred and fear imposed on them – and that became their standards – their way of life. Killing an Indian was not looked upon as taking a human life – it was looked upon as killing a savage beast.
What about our black culture – same thing. We can look back on all the atrocities that our species have committed – and say to ourselves, “how awful”. Yet, we continue to commit them. We don’t realize that by withholding love from anyone, causes our Light to dim and flicker, and this can cause that person to fall. Maybe, all that person needed from us was just a little bit of kindness. But because they didn’t look like us – or didn’t think like us, our own fear kept our hearts closed to them and dimmed our Light.
Our fear is the only thing that keeps us from reaching out our hand. Many, many years ago, my children, Bob, and Julie, and I used to go the Los Angeles mission to serve food. One time I had to park on a side street, and to reach the mission we had to dodge the carboard boxes that were homes to some people. I took Julie’s hand and told Bob to walk closer to me. Bob, who was around 9 or 10 years old who obviously sensed my concern, looked up at me and said, “Just because they look different and live on the street doesn’t make them bad.”
I got it. I had forgotten to “keep my light on.” I had let fear dim my Light.
From the book Emmanuel we read: “To truly know God, we must find out who we are. For now, we think of God as a higher truth, a wider reality, natural order, Divine safety and love. By this we mean an eternal reality that is generous and kind and loving. We can make any human image of this that we want, but once we have located our core, our Shining Light, we will know who God is, we will know the Truth of who we are.”
Let’s remember we are a system of Light…and the frequency that we tune into finds the strength of our beacon….so, let’s tune into the frequency of the Truth of who we are…. LOVE….and our Beacon of Light will shine so bright for all in this world to see.
